Quote from: Timmy Winn on March 06, 2024, 04:06:28 PMWe will see what happens when we get into TRAC play. But at 2-5 now, with 7/8 games before league play starts and two of those games being tough road games it'll be tough to get to .500. Right now they don't look like a .500 team in TRAC play. They might not get to 15 wins this year. Does anyone know the lowest win total in school history? I'd imagine that would set it.
Maxpreps' records go all the way back to 2005, in that time the Bears have never had a losing record and many impressive seasons along the way. Not sure what happened between 1993 and 2005, but these were the 3 "worst" records since '05:
2012: 19-14
2008: 17-13-1
2007: 17-12

When it is all said and done, I imagine that Buchanan will still have a pretty good year.  More losses than normal, but find a way to compete in the end.  I just hope that their New Big Hire has a little more respect for Central Section Baseball and what the high school coaches around here do.  And unless he wants more players looking for greener pastures, I would suggest they start winning soon and he not turn a cold shoulder to the players (alumni) that helped give that program state & national recognition.

Quote from: tru guru on February 28, 2024, 03:30:13 PMMan, you sure called it!  After a blowout of a lower division team that was missing several starters still in basketball, the Bear Empire looks primed for a deep run in the D2 playoffs............

Out of curiosity, does anyone think Buchanan would celebrate a D2 title?  I mean, a VC in a new coaches first year is quite an accomplishment, right?  Do they hang a D-2 banner up there with the two Natty's and all the D-1 titles?  I'm gonna go with "No".

Clovis East hung a huge Section Champion sign atop their scoreboard after their D-2 title run, but nowhere on the sign does it depict it was in Division 2.  Could be deceiving, being a D1 school, some may assume it was a D1 title.

Quote from: Sixtynine on January 11, 2024, 08:24:03 AMBuchanan has had 5 varsity players (starting caliber) leave the program and numerous lower level players leave as well. More varsity players may leave from what I've been told.

Can't wait to share my thoughts on that place when the time is right

How long do we have to wait until we get to hear the juice?

Central Section Football / Re: The TRAC turnaround
October 28, 2023, 08:54:41 AM
That game was MUCH closer than the outcome. Kudos to the Cougars after fighting back after a quick 14-0 hole. They didn't panic and did a ground and pound for most of the night. They hit one long pass before the half that let to a TD, other than that it was underneath stuff & crossing routes and mostly running the ball and QB power with Rose on short yardage. Clovis West scored to tie game at 34, then they tried an onside kick, it was a great effort, but didn't come up with it. Gave the Cougs a short field, and they were able to march down and score, aided by a big 4th down conversion they probably wouldn't have gone for had the ball been kicked deep. Then the Eagles fumble the ensuing kickoff at their own 10-15, then Cougs score, there's your 14 point spread. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs!

Bummer for all the Bear fans & pickers tonight. It was a turnover festival early for both teams, but the Eagles settled in and dominated on both sides of the ball. Next week will be another great one!

They ran it 12 times for 88 yards and 1 TD vs. The Knights.  They named themselves Air West for a reason, but they do try to sprinkle the run in.

The Eagles had 3 turnovers that led directly to the Knights' 20 1st half points.  If they don't turn it over and reserve the right to punt on those possessions, the Knights likely don't score.  Definitely a lot for the Eagles to clean up if they want to be contenders in TRAC Play and the playoffs, but I do feel like they have some senior leaders that can step up and get this team firing on all cylinders... if they are given consistent opportunities.

I think Stockdale at Buchanan should be a great game, a section championship type game by the last two section championship winners. Mr. Guentz (Pepperdine) vs Mr. Featherston (Oregon). I've seen both teams play and both pitchers pitch, and I think it will be a great battle. Buchanan came alive after the Clovis series, and Stockdale's bats have been pretty solid all year, in addition to a couple solid arms.

I don't like to bet, but my best guess would be Redwood @ Stockdale in Visalia.

The Bears were "Spreading the News" at every level this year. Congrats to a consistent program, let's see if they can bring the big one home. Winning the TRAC is very difficult year in year out, but the TRAC Champ doesn't always win the section title.

To be honest, I was just glad to see another thread on here after the "water"gate thread!

Seedings come out Saturday, how do we think the playoff seeds will end up?

Going in to Easter TRAC Records:
Clovis West- 5-1
Clovis High- 4-2
Buchanan- 3-2
Clovis East- 3-2
Central- 2-4
Clovis North- 0-6

Good luck to the Eagles & Cougars in their out of town tournaments. And I hope the schools sticking around for the Fresno Easter Classic make some noise.

Both other matchups suspended due to rain
7-2 lead after Patrick came out after 5 IP for the Eagles, tough one not to close out. Great comeback for the Grizz. Both other games were tight before suspended, should be a fun rest of the week.

Baseball / Re: ESPN Rankings
March 23, 2023, 10:48:59 AM
110 is the max allowed for any pitcher in one game in our section/state, they can finish the batter if they reach 110 during the at-bat.  Not sure of the ideal number, that depends on the athlete's build, conditioning, strength, & stamina.  But if pitchers are going 110 every time out, odds are there will be injuries down the road or the player will not be as strong come playoff time.  It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Vercher has a shot at d1, wish I had more pull to make intros. Good kid, frame is insanely projectable. Good with for Central. Let's see if they can take the series.
Keeping the bullpens fresh is great, but I feel like throwing 110 pitches to do so is asking a lot of kids this time of the year.  Happened in a couple TRAC games yesterday.

Neither tournament is posting the scores/records/runs allowed so the public know what's going on. That should be cleaned up in the future. Is Central still calling it the Nishikawa Classic? I think that's what they called it when my buddy's teams played in it when CN first opened.

I'm curious as to what QB 2's stats looked like. Only defensive stats were posted on Maxpreps. Without real reps in practice since week 2, I thought he played well, dusted off some early rust, wet footballs, tough field conditions and some big time pressure by the Cougars, and helped give his team a chance to be all in and go 1-0.
