What do you guys think of this beast? Just ran a 4.47 and 4.48 today. Faster than all but 5 running backs.
DL Aaron Donald ran a 4.65 and 4.66. Crazy! This is where the games are won with these type of players.
I think Clowney secured #1 with the Texans after what he did today. He will hunt with that speed.

From what I have read the knock on him is his work ethic, sure he trained hard fo rthe combine but will he work hard after he signs that big 7 (maybe 8) figure contract?

Put him next to JJ Watt and wow. You got 2 anchors for a long long time. He may learn work ethic from the great Watt.

It is VERY hard to teach anybody how to "work hard" after they have learned that it is ok if "they" don't . Esp. once that they have learned that they "do not have too". If you don't believe me on that - just take a look at this nations class of "multi generational" welfare brats & all that they are "entitled" to for absolutely NOTHING .

I agree with you.....Watt will put a boot in his *ss if he takes a play off.....

I'm on the fence with this guy. See both sides, overrated and potentially an all pro. One hit put him on the map, and what's it say about a guy when his own college coach says he lacks work ethic. Stats were down this year but what help did he have. Constantly double and triple teamed, teams running away from him, qb rolling away from him, etc. pair him with jj watt offenses won't be able to do that. Throw in a healthy Brian Cushing and you have an awesome 3 headed monster. Antonio smith is no slouch but he is 32, could definitely see clowney as the #1 pick. The draft is loaded with qbs, can easily get a guy like Murray, mccarron in the 2nd round.

I'm on the fence as well. No question te guy as the physical tools to excel. His HS film that someone posted on here a fee months ago was unbelievable.

The work ethic thing is very worrying though. Watt won't be there during the offseason to put a boot in his backside.  With his physical skills, his production should have been better at S Carolina. The upside is higher than anyone else in this draft. Maybe that is enough to be the #1 pick. Glad I'm not making that decision.

I saw that Dri Archer ran the fastest 40. That guy destroyed Army in 2012. Small, but electric. He was the best player Army played that year. And lots of RBs had career games against them that year.

I think you're mistaken about the off-season.....I'd be willing to bet JJ will stalk that kid and make sure he's putting in the work....JMO....

there's not much of an offseason. draft is may 8th, ota's soon after, followed by training camp in july. if these guys get any time, it's probably the couple weeks before training camp. if i was jj, i'd most certainly invite/force him out to stay with me, and work everyday.

He will be a pro now so we shall see.  Spurrier all but called him lazy.  Talent will only take you this far. Without a hard work program he doesn't stand a chance.  BIG Gamble for many GMs.

That's why I'm still sticking to my guns on Jake Mathews BPA period

i know it's preseason, but clowney has been lookin like the right choice. saw his sack and another de-cleater against atlanta. speed off the edge is crazy! he definetly needs to hone his coverage skills. if he can, i think we're looking at not only the defensive of rookie of the year, but defensive mvp.

Pass coverage is something every defensive lineman has to adjust to. They just don't ask them to do much of it in the college ranks. Just think when this cat has a couple years under his belt. Huge upside! Him and Watt on the outside! If these guys are setting the edge like they are supposed to, I think Qb will be looking at lots of screen plays, draw plays and lots of staying in and stepping up in that hot pocket. You think a run able QB wouldn't have some added value going up against these 2 beast DE's?
