who in their right mind would want to coach in Shafter?

quickness

According to the article in the Bakersfield Californian, they have had two recognizable names apply for the position.  Does anybody know if there is a teaching position available to go along with the coaching job?

According to Trevor Horn, Pierucci and Crews have already interviewed

Crews, the old Ridgeview/Selma guy?

This also becomes interesting because there has been some discussion of Shafter getting out of the KHSD and joining with the local K-8 district.

Again I ask, who in their right mind would want to coach in Shafter?

Ill flip it around, who in their right mind would want to coach at a div 1 school in the KHSD?  Other than BHS....no support...other than lip service...no coaches on campus...teaching core classes.....parent problems up the wazoo....and you get paid as much as I do at a smaller program.....oh and you better win.

not to bust your chops Teddy, and I am sorry to be blunt.  But this is a conversation that I have had with a few of my friends and it irritates me.  There is more to coaching than the Div number next to it.  Plus to be honest in the KHSD...it's just not worth it.

Force, coaching in the KHSD is a challenge, period.
Let me first, thank you for teaching, coaching, and grooming these young men, its important.
The dedication, hours, and responsibilty that coaches put in, is amazing.
I cant speak for Teddy, but the way I read his post, was not so much the division a school is in, but coaching at Shafter, while dealing with the school district.

Force, I can understand your frustration but I don't believe that in any of my comments I said "why would anyone want to coach at Shafter when you can coach at a D1 school". I get what you're saying that coaching is more than playing on the big stage with top athletes, I have echoed these thoughts more than once. Although I didn't elaborate, what I should have said and didn't because I felt it redundant is why would you want to coach at Shafter when you get horrible support from Admin, terrible budget, no money in the community for support, horrible pay, no on campus coaches, etc. Which is exactly what flex figured I was getting at. I really don't understand how anyone would want to coach in the KHSD, for the reasons you state and I have.

And I would not apply for a job where those are issues.... :)

I wouldn't either - no matter what  division they were in. I think that was also what Teddy was getting at.
