They should go back to small school vs Large school but you might find a way to cry about that as well.

MonarchPride

::) Hardly crying. Just trying to point out the flaws and trying to understand the logic behind a messed up system.

Though I guess logic is thrown out the window when you're always trying to make sure everyone gets a prize.

well Garces, SJM, BCHS, CVC to name a few that play up seem to run with it. Lets take your Monarch Pride for one. I noticed that the first 4 games are all playing down to opponents. I guess to give them something to feel good about. If you go back to small school vs Large school. I bet the same school will be in the Semi every year!

MonarchPride

Come on..you and I both know that's comparing apples and oranges. Private vs. Public schools, Really?

Scheduling and division placement are also 2 separate issues. Most schools that move up and down never even bother with changing their schedules.

When there is disparity in the leagues teams have to get creative to find ways to make it to the playoffs. This is the beast the they have created.

hardhitter23

but they should be D6 and D5 based off what your argument has been in a few threads. I am only going off what you said, but of course there is stipulations now. In the end raise the bar for your program play a tougher non league schedule (not teams like Lindsey and Woodlake), get your kids comfortable to competing. Instead of crying why the teams are moving up and down.  FYI Clovis East average a win a year and they haven't went down in competition nor have they played teams that they know they can beat up on to make their kids feel good.  :-X :o :(

MonarchPride

Good for them!

I'm looking at the big picture and seeing how blurred the lines have become. It's not too late to fix this mess.

The remainder of our schedule has Golden West, Kingsburg, Selma, CVC and Dinuba. For a school of 920 students I'd say we are doing pretty well for ourselves when it comes to scheduling.

Woodlake is the longest Rivalry in the state and I don't see that game going away. Lindsay was improving but proving my point it's an ebb and flow in H.S. Football. McLane is a Fresno school with 1700 students, they should be better than they are but that's a sinking ship and we are dropping them. Taft mid to top tier D4 school on average, last year they beat us 70-35 and this year we got them 42-20, another example of the ebb and flow. And this week we have Golden West, the #1 D4 school so far this year. GW will more than likely sweep the Visalia Schools and the EYL with the possible exception of Redwood and Lemoore, both D2 schools.

I may be a lone wolf on here but I can guarantee I'm not the only one with legitimate questions. Have a conversation with Pagmeter.

hardhitter23

There are schools also less students and higher division. They were moved up and haven't complained. If going off your original statement then D4 champs would be CVC, BCHS, SJM, or Garces year in and year out but wait those don't count for you even though they are smaller.

MonarchPride

Dude...Private schools are a beast of their own I get that. They compete because they recruit.

MonarchPride

Maybe we need to add Clovis East to our schedule next year. We need a another powder puff opponent.

Trust me Exeter has never been afraid to play anyone anywhere, and they have competed year in and year out.

You keep thinking I'm on this band wagon for our benefit or I'm crying. Please!!

I can go back to 2013 when Dinuba had Marcus McMaryion at QB. They won D3 that year, defeating South, Independence and Ridgeview in the playoffs. They Also lost to Exeter that year 34-21.

You follow D1 football, it's a lot different here in the middle so I don't expect you to understand.

hardhitter23

I can agree with you on that one... Don't know too much about anything lower than D2.

MonarchPride

And please name those schools that have moved up and have been successful. I can guarantee either they are private or their student body population warranted the move.

Sanger 2-1? They have 2852 students

Ridgeview 2-1? 2384 students

Redwood 3-2? 2143 students.

Dinuba 3-2? 1923 Students.

Chowchilla (1066) going from 4-3  and Mendota(847) from 5-4 are two examples of small schools moving up after having a few successful years. Too early to tell how that experiment is going to work out. Mendota is already 1-3 with the same schedule as last year.

#32
In the past?

Edison
Kingsburg
Clovis North
Liberty Madera

there are more and you are using today numbers to justify (personal Sku) yesterday's success

MonarchPride

Which is my point. There is a natural ebb and flow with good and bad crops of kids.

Edison has 2490 student body population so that's a no brainer.

Kingsburg at 1117 had an exceptional coach and support for a while. That's gone and so is their success. I believe they made it up to D2 and now are D3. They may find themselves back in D4 if they don't pull it together.

Edison didn't have 2400 kids when they were winning D2 championships. They asked to go up.
same with Clovis North which also requested to go up in Divisions each year

Coach Scudder

The wheels on the bus go round and round........

MonarchPride

Up is one thing.. More power to you. If you got all your ducks in a row then go for it. Down is another thing all together.

MonarchPride

Coach Scudder could you tell me the argument for or against moving Porterville down to D4.

Coach Scudder

I do not believe Porterville, Monache, Golden West, or any other 1500+ school should be in D IV. After having coached High School football for 25+ years, 10 in Clovis Unified, I can understand the upswing and down tick in talent all schools experience.  However, I believe there should be a minimum requirement/standard of divisional placement.  To move or be made to move up is ok (with an appeal process), but a school should not be move or be made to move below that minimum. I also believe that minimum must be decided by population of the school.  I further understand that 1500 Clovis Unified Students will not be the same as 1500 Porterville Unified students. Thus, the minimum standard with the option to move up.

I know all of you will not agree, and I am fine with that. But, I was asked my opinion and there it is!!

Coach Scudder

Hey JM good to see you on the preps!!
