I have been a Garces supporter for years. BUT, when they threw Dave F. under the bus and let him go my support for the administration at GHS went with Dave. EVERYONE at the school who played for Jimmy or coached with Jimmy in the 90's knows he is a great guy to hang out with. However, there was a reason he was let go at Garces the 1st time. So, it s no surprise to anyone in "the know" that he has run into trouble so quickly. I do no believe he was directly involved in anything racal. However, I believe he allowed the kids to be undisciplined and does not reflect the mission of the school. I stood in horror on the sideline at the VC game as I would hear the mouths of the boys on the sideline when something would go bad. They would drop f-bombs and no one would do anything about it. Before John F. was castrated, he would have ripped those kids up and down the field on Friday night and Saturday Morning. I am not saying Jimmy is guilty of any wrong doing bc I do not know what are the accusations. BUT I do know his hiring was an embarrassment to the Garces Alum and is reflective of some of the deeper issues going on with the administration. Don't worry though Garces peeps. Change is coming. Those of you in "the know" understand what I am saying.:)

Redneckgirl, I read your first post this morning and have been giving it some thought as to how to respond. I have come to the conclusion that you will not see rational reason and will let your emotions blind you, as most women do. I would like you top point out where anyone suggested that Maples is a racist? When a person in authority (teacher/ boss/management) witnesses a person under their supervising do or make a comment that is inappropriate and they do not address it; they have ,by default, condoned it that is the message sent. I have not once implied or said what Maples did or is accused of, by the way. "I believe what you're saying dlion, I don't buy that Maples actively recruited anyone...that would take extra work and effort 2 qualities that elude his character." That's not slander, that is an opinion.

Well Hurd, here's a person that is a long time garces supporter ( I will not hold that against him for the time being  :)-) and it doesn't appear that he very happy with this "really good man" does it? "BUT I do know his hiring was an embarrassment to the Garces Alum"

I am with you Redneckgirl, I hope Maples come out of this just fine and continues to roam the sidelines of garces for many more years to come.  :D

IMHO, for the majority of students, parents, and alumni, I don't think people at Garces really care.. one way, or the other.  There has not been any consistency in that program since Dave F. was let go.  There has been a different coaching staff for the freshman team pretty-much every year for the past 4-5 years.  The J.V. coach that everyone liked left... and there is a completely new coaching staff for the JV program.  There has been three head coaches in the past four years.. and all of the assistant coaches are relatively new, within last several years. 

Unfortunately, change is the new normal at that school... and everyone will just keep rolling with the punches.

If and when they finally put the person in charge who will provide long-term stability.. like John F. did for years and years, then people will really be passionate and give a crap about the status of the football head coach at Garces.

Garces should scout out and recruit the best coach available, sign him to a long term contract, pay him some real money... and do what schools like Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure, and Bishop Gorman did - get the best athletes in the county to want to play at their school.

:u:  :u:  :u: The catholic schools in the central  section are "sleeping Giants" & could compete with the very best athletic programs in the valley while still providing the special kind of education that they are so proud of . That takes Long Term Commitment  : to the Program / the Coaching staff / the kids / the alum / the boosters & current supporters .

there is a vacuum leak at the top at Garces for some time now. They cant get any suction going to the prime the pump.  I am not a Garces alum but my 3 kids are as well as extended family. Jimmy could be more discipline with the kids, there is no doubt.  He is not an embarrassment to me though. This Garces alum you speak of are not all on the same page as you either.
Last year at this time Jimmy was fighting to get the job most people thought was already his.  The anti-Jimmy's of last year were just going to insert the appropriate 4 to 5 syllable  last name into the head coaching spot and accept the cursory donations that would follow.  Instead we got a guy who wasn't an stick in the mud , get in line , good lil boy type.....we got jimmy.
We got someone who could so radically change  in on year what Garces was so used to that it produced "THE MOST DYNAMIC TEAM IN GARCES HISTORY" .  (I DID NOT SAY BEST).
Jimmy may not be the ultimate answer for Garces but he sure got things shook up a bit.
