Coach Clements

We are pleased to announce that we will once again be running our Passing and Lineman Competition this June 21 in Hanford.  We will be running the Lineman Competition on the same day as the 7on7.  We will have 3 pool play games of 30 minutes in the morning followed by the Lineman Competition during the noon break.  We will resume play-off brackets in the afternoon for the 7on7.  We should be able to guarantee a 4 game minimum.  Please contact us with an RSVP; we had to turn teams away last summer.

2014 Hanford Lineman Competition:
We are pleased to announce the fourth annual Hanford Lineman Competition.  We will have a coaches meeting at 11:45am in front of the weight room.  Teams will consist of 6 players that ARE NOT competing in the 7on7 tournament.  Coaches please adhere to this rule, if a player is a TE/DL type of player, you must chose which competition he will take part in.

Individual Events:  Different from the Redwood event, all six team member's scores will be recorded and used in the team score for each of the three individual events.  In other words, every score counts towards the team total.

Bench Press:  The bench press portion of the competition will consist of one repetition max set of 185 pounds.  All six team members will compete and the total amount of reps will be added together for a total team score.  Once the competitor lifts the bar from the rack, he must begin his set.  The judge will count each repetition for the competitor.  The set is completed when the lifter either racks the weight or the spotter touches the bar- no matter how lightly.  The judge may not count some reps if he feels that the bar is being bounced from the chest of the lifter and the lifter is not showing control of the weight.  This will be up to the individual judge.  There will be a separate warm-up area.  All lifts at the benches of the judges will be considered official.

Wall Balls:  We will use Crossfit movement standards for this event.  We will use 20lb. medicine balls thrown to the height of 10 feet outside of the wall of weight room.  Each member of the team will complete 30 total reps for time.  Each individual time will be recorded and added together for a total team time back at the scorer's table.  The time will start once the player has dropped with a hip-crease below the knee with both hands on the ball.  The player then comes out of the squatted position and tosses the ball on or above the 10 foot mark on the wall.  When the ball touches the wall one repetition is completed.  The player does not have to catch the ball to complete the rep.  The player can choose to catch each rep and then drop to the squatted position in one motion.   Each squat must have a hip-crease below the knee in order to count towards the 30 total reps.  The judge will shout out "no rep" on any reps that don't meet the movement standard and will remind the player how many reps that do have completed at the time.

Team Events:  All events will be run in a relay format with all six members participating.  Time will be kept from the movement of the first member through the finish of the sixth team member.

Obstacle Course:  This is the same obstacle course used in the Redwood Trench Wars. Six members in a relay format run the prescribed course.  (1) Start in a 3 point stance, through the chute (2) through six bags (3) to one corner of the 5 x 10 yard box.  (4) Pick up the 35lb. weight and shuffle (can not cross feet) to the other side.  In the shuffle, extend the weight from the chest to a point in front of your eyes with your arms extended as you slide your onside foot out, bring the weight back to your chest as your trailing foot recovers to a good hit position.  (5) Forward roll past the cone marking 5 yards, (6) pick up a second weight and shuffle back across the box.  (7) Drop the weight and back peddle 5 yards, (8) pull to the center of the box, around the cone and sprint through the finish.  *see attached diagram

Two-Man Sled Relay:  We will use a standard two-man side-by-side sled for this relay; the teams will push the sled for 10 yards each in groups of two.  The entire distance will be 30 yards.  The total team time will count as the score.  The two finishing pushers will seat roll out once they hit their 10 yard line and the next two pushers can resume the push.

Single-Man Speed Sled Relay:  We will use a single man speed sled with a 45lb weight allotment.  Each player will take turns pushing the sled 20 yards and turning the sled behind the line 180 degrees before the next team mate can touch the sled.  The total time will comprise the score for this event.

Tire Flip:  The tire flip will consist of two flips per participant, the total team time it takes to complete 12 flips will be the score.  Each time a player needs assistance with a flip a 5 second penalty will be enforced.  The tire must also stay within the prescribed "out of bounds" line, a 5 second penalty will be enforced against teams that flip the tire out of bounds.

I am pretty sure they went 0-3 this morning.  They lost to RFK AND Highland.  The only game in question was vs Avenal but I think they lost that one.
