Boys (Long Jump) Kingsburg's Joey Souza 24ft 3 1/2inches +1.4w @ Rafer Johnson Invitational.
This jump leads the State for a wind legal jump.
I was the official for this event.  It was legit. Here's a pic of Joey after the Track Meet. Congrats.

THanks again Jeraf for coming to run the long jump for us.  Glad Joey gave you something to talk about as well.

It WAS the state leading mark and #3 in the country for a few min/hours.  Adore jumped 24'4.5 and Nate Moore jumped 25'00.75"!!  THose were listed as #1 and #3 in the country.  Joey is still #3 in the state and likely top 5-6 in the country with that mark.

He sure is fun to watch!!!

Some do, Some don't, I might!

This should put Joey on the radar for College recruiters (especially since he's still in 11th grade).
Joey is an elite LJ without a doubt.  The rankings don't lie.  :u:

Those marks by Adore and Moore were long jump marks during the indoor season.

For a moment, Joey was the national leader and the state leader, Adoree Jackson leap 25.5 1/4
Joey is officially #2 in the country, and #2 in the state in the long jump for the 2014 outdoor season.

At Mt. Sac Invitational this weekend, I watched Souza leap 25-7, on the Saturday before, at Arcadia, he jump 24-10.

Amazing week for Mr Souza.

Thanks Flex.  He's an amazing kid.  Probably more so on the inside that even the athletic talent.

Been fun watching him since he was in 6th grade and working with him for 5 years now.

He's as in awe of how he's done this last month as anybody.

wow. 25-7 , thats great. What does it take to get to the Olympic Trials ? I would think that jump would put him close.

Actually had to look up the b standard. The "A" standard is 8.05 meters (26-6).  If 24 men are not over that in an Olympic year they take all the way down to the "B" standard of 7.80 meters (25-7)  so theoretically if it was an Olympic year and that jump was wind legal and there weren't 24 others jumping further he'd be in.  Hadn't thought of the jump from that perspective just yet and likely won't tell him either.  :-)

Another fun tidbit is that the 25-7 (if legal) would put him 7th currently in the NCAA just ahead of another valley kid, Willie Alexander formerly of Central high.  His wind legal 24-10 would be tied for 26th.
