You have:

1.  BHS without the magnificent seven (all three-year varsity players).  I know that team is deep; however, there was no Rufus or Hayes on the Frosh Soph/JV squads.
2.  Garces in D1 with a new VHC and one big-name player.
3.  Wasco without Sharpe.
4.  Frontier with Sharpe... and is Sharpe going to be eligible?
5.  Stockdale with a new VHC and who??  Who are their big-name players?
6.  BCHS was able to lure several big players to their program... this team is going to be even a bigger powerhouse this year.

Besides these, who/which are the players/programs to watch out for this upcoming season?  Which team is going to surprise??  Which team is going to give BHS their biggest challenge this year?

How did BCHS "lure" players to their program?

Garces is in D2 so you're going to be waiting a while
Coach- " So they're gonna let you run the ball this year huh."
Player-" If they wanna win they will."

The confusion may lie in the fact that Garces has pumped up their schedule by moving into a D1 league.....

Because Garces didn't get these players. Sour grapes.

You have:

1.  BHS without the magnificent seven (all three-year varsity players).  I know that team is deep; however, there was no Rufus or Hayes on the Frosh Soph/JV squads.  They will be just fine without the magnificent 7. Got Lamishio Hill and Marcus Bruce running the rock as a 2 piece of the 5 headed running back stable. Also they return Nigel Brooks, Marcus Watkins, Super Soph Desmond Stancil and Centennial transfer Kicker from Coleman Olivas. The question mark is the QB position and if Golla will use more passing and less option because no one ran that offense better than Rufus. I'd go so far as to say he ran it better than Hannible and Phillip Thomas. And those 2 were pretty talented in their own right.
2.  Garces in D1 with a new VHC and one big-name player.  You mean to say Garces in the SWYL beefs their schedule up toward competing with D1 teams
3.  Wasco without Sharpe. Rebuilding year. Huge loss for Prado. No Grinner or Sharp to tote the rock.
4.  Frontier with Sharpe... and is Sharpe going to be eligible? Why is it always a question if a valuable player is eligible when they transfer?
5.  Stockdale with a new VHC and who??  Who are their big-name players? If Stockdale is better than 5-5 I'd be very surprised. They lost a ton of players and return very little. I have no idea what offense he runs. The new coach will have to figure out a good plan of attack when the parents start complaining of playing time or lack of utilization of their babies.
6.  BCHS was able to lure several big players to their program... this team is going to be even a bigger powerhouse this year. See above. Would like to know what MW means by lure. And who are these big time players?

Besides these, who/which are the players/programs to watch out for this upcoming season?  Which team is going to surprise??  Which team is going to give BHS their biggest challenge this year?  I honestly believe Garces with Croney will be the biggest surprise and could challenge BHS more than any other league team. Frontier with Sharp intrigues me. Although they don't return a ton of players. Do they have a team of talented players to surround Sharp? Liberty with Mariscal could be dangerous again. Centennial with Robinson could be dangerous. If you take all these running backs, the top players off of each team that will be your answer as to the surprise team. Seems like they all have 1 great player but what surrounds them.

GHF, I agree on Rufus.. probably the most well-rounded student to come out of that school since Pete Mitchell (dare I say.. might even be better?? - even though Rufus was surrounded by better talent).  I think the one to watch at BHS next year will be Nigel Brooks... he might have a shot at going D1.

After all of the recent, negative predictions on this blog about the GMHS team falling apart with this new coach, I am sure their are some people that are surprised to read your post that you think GMHS will be the biggest challenge for BHS this year.  Can't wait for this game to see if you are right... having Croney one year older and stronger will be exciting to watch.

Regarding big-time players:  there was one kid on the BHS freshman team last season who was a dominant force on the defensive line (very big, strong, a wrestler, tremendous wing span).  I watched them play several games.. and all I kept thinking was that this kid is going to dominate over the next three years.  This kid playing next to Nigel Brooks this season?? forgettaboudit!  From all of the reports I have heard, he has transferred to BCHS.  A kid like that in their D4 program is quite an acquisition.  Along with Brandon Jones.. another great acquisition.

By "lure", I simply meant to "attract"... nothing else.  There is a current 8th grader who is quite a talented and skilled athlete in the BHS district... according to those who know, he is torn between BHS and BCHS (no "sour grapes" there GHF).  That decision would get a little easier if his family was told that they didn't have to worry about any tuition bills.  Whichever school gets him will get a quality acquisition.

If this is true, then we (coaches) have not been informed about him.

I hope it is not true.  I was talking to some BHS kids about him.. and they told me he was going to be at BCHS next year.  If you haven't heard, then it was probably bogus.  So, like Lloyd Christmas said in Dumb and Dumber..  "you're saying I still have a chance".. to see this kid playing next to Nigel Brooks?  Opposing-team QBs better be able to scramble like Johnny Manziel.

The tuition bills are what keeps most all kids that want to go to BCHS from going there. It's not the programs. It's not the athletic facilities. It's not the coaching. It's not the God centered quality education. All those things are very attractive to this segment of Bakersfield. It always comes down to the cost. And they know that. Garces could probably say the same things to some extent minus all the drama from the last couple years.

Garces is getting a few big time prospects, incoming freshman that could make an immediate impact right away on the top level.

I have a question totally unrelated. Why is the city All star game an arena bowl game? Why can't this be played on 100 yards of grass at Bakersfield College the way these kids perform during their season? I see the players have fun mostly trying to be entertainers playing on 50 yards of turf. But I think it could be so much better. Just my opinion.

quickness

To say that the arena bowl is a "city" all star game is really not true.  The city, county, newspaper nor any other non-profit organization is not involved in this all-star game.  The game rights are owned by a private citizen/business and it is a game that makes this man/business money.  He chose the arena football for his own reasons, which has to do with money.  The Army is longer the name sponsor because of problems with how and why this game is run.  They used to hand out scholarships and had the participants actively involved in community service.  But because that put a dent in the profit margin, that is no longer done.  I will say, however, arena football is very exciting and is something that these kids may never get to play again.

Who does Garces have offensively next year other than Croney? I know they have most of their line back, but are they going to be one dimensional?

I love one dimensional teams.  Strong disciplined o line and a couple of solid running backs.  No 3-card monte double reverse hide the ball flee flicker diversion nonsense.  Just line up and drive the ball straight down your opponent's throat.

Then just walk off.  If I was a coach, I would ban all forms of on the field celebrations.  It would totally psyche the other team out.

I liked Murphy's style, but not that rinky-dink offense.  I'm more of a Hartigan man.  We went to the Fresno State camp one year and ran the same play for one entire scrimmage.  Counter left, counter right.  All night.

Presently, dual threat quarterbacks junior Luke Vasquez, sophmore Marco Petrini and freshman Conor Bruce.
Pro style quarterback freshman Michael Barnett. Don't know whose favored.
Running backs Jack Scott, Hunter Giuletti, Konstatin Zagustin and Cameron Roberson. Others are in the mix.

Those RB's might want to look at another position  8) If the ball is being advanced on the ground it really  should only be in one guys hands .  :D

Unless they go back to that old wing t. Then rbs in bunches are a good thing
