Touchback

Two Bakersfield Quarterbacks led their teams to the Final 8 of the "Passing Down Southern California Regionals". Both teams qualified for the "Best of the West" State Tournament on April 26, 2015. Liberty's Junior Quarterback Jordan Love led his "Ground Zero Panoramic" team to a 2nd place finish , while Sophomore Garces Quarterback Conor Bruce led his "Ground Zero Sniper" team to the Final Eight. The Bakersfield "Ground Zero Square Up" team narrowly missed a final eight finish. Other notables who played exceptionally well were Matt Hubble of Panoramic, Brady Serda of Sniper and Cole Nelson, Parker Holbrook, Cole Beatty and Deondre Henderson of Square Up. Many other Bakersfield players also stood out. Congratulations to all for making Kern County Proud.

Where are all the Ridgeview kids?

Ridgeview Quarterback/Cornerback Lawrence White played in the Passing Down Northern California Regional with his team DB Nation.

Wow! this kid is also on the track team, the past two weeks he has been competed in four track meets, adding in 7v7, and school is a lot.

THis White kid sounds like the perfect canidate to fill the void at the QB spot for the Drillers.

"lol"    Your question just seemed rhetorical.  You didn't hear about the ridgeview boys?  That is like asking why the talented kid who plays basketball for Norris isn't on the NJB all-star team.  Why not?  Because his parents didn't sign him up, pay the money, and drive him to practices/games every week.  That is why!  All of this 7on7 stuff is a business.  If little Johnny Ridgeview wants to pay to play 7on7, the 7on7 people would love to have him and all of his buddies (along with their monthly dues).  I believe they practice at Liberty park once a week.  That shouldn't be too far to run for those kids who do track.  From the group of kids who gather at Liberty Park to practice each week, they pick the best ones to be a part of these L.A. teams that travel to the tournaments.  Perhaps a better question to ask is "What is the deal with all of this GroundZero 7on7 stuff?  Because I don't know anything about it."

7on7 can be a waste at times. IMO it is all an ego thing.  :d: :d: :d:

Well????  let us all in on the secret.  Where are all of the Ridgeview kids?  While you're at it, let us know how these 3rd and 4th party trainers pay for their 7 on 7 circuit that you know so much about?  Because I am sure they aren't doing it for free.  Who pays for their practice facilities and gas to drive up to Bakersfield and back?  I can't believe they are donating all of this out of the kindness of their hearts.  Because if they are, they should get some type of recognition for their sacrifice.

I gave my opinion on 7-v-7 in a previous topic discussion; however, I read an article that put things into perspective....

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=6600377

I guess if I had a talented son who was a DB or WR, I would probably be all over this type of thing.  Especially if my son were a WR at a school that didn't have much of a passing game... or a DB that played in a league that didn't have much passing.  You would never get much of a chance to show your talent (except for the occasional combine or camp).  College scouts appear to be lazy these days.. and follow the path of least resistance.  Since the college coaches are giving these venues the time of day, it is something that is not going to go away.... Hey, that rhymed!  That could be in a rap song.

Exactly why 7on7 will only grow! just like you said MW1, If you had a kid that was a DB/WR and was at a school that didnt throw much 7on7 is a chance for him to display that he can play.  #DegreeBoundNation

Here you guys go.
http://therecruitingcode.com/college-coaches-are-not-coming-to-your-high-school-games/

The Coach who runs the site listed is a former college women's soccer coach and current club team girls soccer coach.  Girls soccer is highly recruited (like several other sports) through club teams.  College coaches still attend high school football games, ask for hudl film from the high school coach, transcripts etc..  I would say that High School Football Coaches are easily contacted.  Especially, when it involves helping a kid fulfill his dream of becoming a college student athlete.
A lot of high schools in Southern California have a showcase day where college coaches show up in mass and watch that school's top players go through drills etc.  Locally, that process is usually conducted by outside / club team coaches who put together kids from various schools and have a showcase.  Is football moving in the direction of the AAU route or is the High School Coach still the most integral part of the recruiting process?  If everyone is in it to help kids then it's all great!  When folks become opportunists then not so much.  I guess it all boils down to why folks are working with kids....

Even that article says that football is different than the other sports.  That college coaches do go to their HIGH SCHOOL games.  The main reason is that in 7 on 7 THEY DON'T HIT ANYBODY!!!!

What Bakersfield Football Coaches work the hardest at getting their kids scholarships?

I am also interested to know whether the local football coaches work as hard for the players in getting scholarships as the players work for the coaches? Do the coaches actively seek out compatible programs for the players or do they wait to be contacted by Colleges before acting? Also what coaches have the highest success rate in obtaining scholarships for their players?
