a punch to the gut to edison. IMO, #1 until their play dictates otherwise.

"Another season is upon us, and there's a new favorite in town — and in the Central Section. That would be Liberty, which returns 13 starters from a 10-3 team that entered the fourth quarter of last year's Division I section championship tied with Fresno-Edison before losing by a touchdown. Right behind the Patriots is Clovis, which has a whopping 17 starters back from a team that had Edison down 14-0 in the fourth quarter of a section semifinal; perennially powerful Bakersfield; and those defending champion Edison Tigers. The top team in Division II, Ridgeview, rounds out the preseason top five. Let the games begin."

2. Clovis (2014 record: 8-5, lost in Division I semifinals)

5. Ridgeview (2014 record: 12-2, won Division II championship)

My opinion Ridgeview should be number 1. Only time will tell come week 2.

I have a lot of respect for what the Bakersfield paper does for HS athletics - but it is hard for me to believe that Hanford, Tulare, & Dinuba are better teams than CW - Hanford & Tulare are loaded with talent - but overall I don't think so - mho

Just my opinion, but I think Hanford is listed about right in this ranking and Tulare and Dinuba should be lower. Tulare Union probably has the best back in the Valley but overall, I'm not sure they are even the best team in Tulare. Of course all rankings are simply someone's opinion...with no real value other than conversation starters.

know chance, Ridgeview is good but they aren't the #1 team in the valley, with league games against East, West Golden Valley and Indy no way they can make claim to a tough schedule.

I don't think it's a punch in the gut to Edison.  I would have ranked Bullard ahead of them in the preseason.  Plenty of time to prove your worth now that the games are starting.

I disagree Quinn, the valley title isn't like a boxing title it's not defended each week. The rankings are a guesstimation as to which teams are the best right now. Just because Edison finished last year as the best team doesn't mean they are the best right now.

Ive seen both Hanford and CW in person this year, and I think you're correct.  Hanford can match up with anyone at the skill spots, but CW (and Bullard) would wear them down fast in the trenches.  I would put CW and Bullard at #6 & 7, followed by Hanford.   I also think Lemoore is slighted in this ranking, they're a top 10 team.

I agree about the weak league they are in. I just believe they will continue to pound liberty like they have done in the past few years and maybe get the sweep in the swyl . Now I understand everything would have to piece together as in liberty beats Mission Viejo. Bhs and Rhs  would need to be 4-0 when RHS and BHS meet. Depending on how the Clovis schools fair out come mid season they just might have that top rank.
